Abstract:
FUCK WAVE was a durational performance piece and gallery installation at the Audain Gallery at the University of Victoria. Using found video footage of stadium fans doing “the wave” and dividing text referencing terms from second wave feminism, the artist hit baseballs at the projections with viewers present in the space, engaging in conversation about gender, heteronormativity, access, danger and social constructions worthy of dismantlement.

“I wanted to swing a bat. My postpartum therapist told me, if I worked hard enough, I could “have it all.” I wanted to have a ball! I live across the street from the only womens+ softball league on the island. I begged to join it. They let me but their games were on Fridays, my only studio night away from my family. I thought I was losing my mind. Taking a crack at second wave feminisms’ shady patriarchal illusions, the divisive self, in order to reform queer family and have a little fun.”
